Bodyweight training is a great supplement to any fitness program, and it's not just for gym rookies. Even serious lifters need to be able to perform bodyweight exercises correctly, and can benefit from adding them into their workouts. Aside from the obvious strength benefits you get from bodyweight training, there are several others to keep in mind. Here are three bonus benefits to dropping the weights:
1. YOU DON'T NEED A GYM
Many times we are busy and don’t always have access to a gym or weights. Bodyweight training is the perfect way to work on your strength and endurance sans the gym. Choose a set of strength exercises, add in cardio moves and voila, you won't have to skip your workout!
2. YOU CAN TRAIN OUTDOORS
Now that summer is coming you may be tempted to ditch the gym, but why not take your workout outside? Bodyweight training is perfect for the outdoors where the only equipment is the ground below your feet! Pushups, squats, walking lunges… Create a circuit workout, or add these moves to your outdoor cardio routine. No need to skimp on strength while taking advantage of the beautiful weather.
3. YOU CAN BUST THROUGH A PLATEAU
You can bust through a plateau: Bodyweight exercises can't replace weight training and cardio, but they can complement those forms of training. With so many moves, and endless possible exercise combinations and set/rep schemes, bodyweight training breaks you from the same old routine. If you're used to lifting, bodyweight exercises will shake things up, challenging the muscles and helping you bust through a plateau.
